Under Active Thyroid

The thyroid gland produces thyroxin which is a major contributor to having a healthy life. Thyroxin has many complex interactions with other hormones and chemicals in the body. Medical experts are only just beginning to understand these reactions and the dynamics of health that this involves. The Western approach which divides the body into separate parts and treats them as individual items typically will test for thyroid function and treat it in isolation. The original cause of thyroid malfunction is more often than not, not addressed.

The typical treatment that a GP will advise and prescribe is to flood the body with artificial thyroxin. This can suppress the natural ability of the thyroid to produce thyroxin, which means that even more artificial thyroxin is needed, with ever decreasing results. This approach can also cause side effects. A natural approach is concerned with restoring normal body functions and so often has no side effects. Our natural approach has helped many people with an under active thyroid without resorting to artificial chemicals, and means that any treatment we suggest will not interfere with any medication.

What are the symptoms of an under active thyroid?

  • Fatigue / lethargy / general tiredness
  • Weight gain
  • Frequent crying
  • Poor tolerance of the cold
  • Muscle weakness and cramps
  • The outer third of the eyebrow is thin or missing.
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Depression
  • Migraines
  • Low libido
  • Thin and brittle fingernails

What are the possible causes of an under active thyroid?

Nutritional deficiencies such as iodine, essential fatty acids and the amino acid tyrosine.

Also deficiencies of zinc, selenium and copper which help to convert thyroxin (T4) to the T3 which the body uses to maintain mental function. (New England Journal of Medicine 1999, 340: 420 – 429.) Other causes include:

  • Menopause
  • X-rays and HRT are thought to suppress the thyroid.
  • Whiplash
  • Toxins
  • Adrenal stress
  • Emotional issues can also affect the thyroid. Some of the emotions associated with an under active thyroid include feeling stifled, giving up, humiliation, feelings of exhaustion, despair, despondency, and loneliness.

Excess exposure to fluoride (found in most toothpastes and tap water) and chlorine, which inhibit iodine.

How do we treat an under active thyroid?

We use Kinesiology to determine the cause of the problem, whether it is nutritional, emotional, structural (whiplash and problems with the spine), or toxins. By addressing the problem, rather than the symptom, generally we restore people’s health very quickly utilising this approach. The following are some of the techniques which are used after holistic assessments of the bodily condition:-

  • Give nutritional supplements where appropriate
  • Treat the associated emotion with emotional release techniques
  • Check for toxins and use herbs in solution to flush them out of the body
  • Give herbs where appropriate.
  • Give dietary advice – it can be helpful to avoid soy, peanuts, fats, oats and bananas, and to eat more protein and less carbohydrates.
  • Check the spine

Why should I consult an alternative practitioner such as a Kinesiologist and book with you?

Simple tests, which can be performed on the body or remotely via a hair analysis, quickly narrow down and identify the cause of the problem.

Your screening to determine the causes of Thyroid malfunction, as described above, will be carried out in the first 15 minutes of an appointment for free.

This means that you can get back to full health quickly, and save money on trying supplements which don’t work or taking chemically formulated drugs which don’t treat the whole body.

Typically just one or two appointments should see a marked improvement.

We also offer general dietary advice which has been very useful in helping to lose weight healthily!

We are proud of our successes and you can review some of the latest here.

What Should I do now?

Contact us to book an appointment, or to ask any questions that you may have.

Also if you can’t travel to our clinics in Berkshire, by using hair analysis we can also work remotely.

Testimonials

Lorraine Harris-Young, Berkshire
I am writing to thank you so very much for all the help and benefit I have received from your health practice. I came to you several months ago suffering from the condition of menorraghia (very heavy periods), that I have endured for 30 years and despite trying everything available on the market and even having invasive major surgery for fibroids, nothing ever helped ease the condition for any length of time.

However since following the supplement programme you recommended my condition has improved enormously and my energy and subsequent fitness levels have changed beyond all recognition.

I would be very pleased to recommend your skills and services to friends and clients and I know from monitoring life with and without the supplements you test me for, that my health and well being is 100% improved from your treatments.

Please keep up the good work, thank God I met you!
