| Backs
Our backs are a key part of our skeleton, and are supported by muscles. The spinal chord allows the brain to communicate with our limbs and torso.
With any back problem, it is important to identify what caused the problem in the first place. In our experience, back problems usually are symptoms of other problems in the body (except for car accidents, sports injuries, falls, etc). This is why many people continually need various types of treatment on an ongoing basis – because the cause of the back problem has not been identified and treated.
This means that any relief is only short term, and because the root cause of the problem is not being treated, other types of problem may result.
What are the symptoms of a bad back?
Pain and stiffness, either permanent or intermittent. Also because the spinal chord houses nerves which travel from the brain to other parts of the body, problems in other areas can then result.
What are the possible causes of a bad back?
Generally speaking there are two types of back problems. Those where something has happened to the back, such as a car accident, sport injury, or heavy fall, and those where nothing has happened to the back.
Where something has happened to the back
Here the conventional approach is first of all to give something for the pain, which is usually effective at taking the pain away, and then some direct intervention on the back such as Physiotherapy, Chiropractic or Osteopathy, or even an operation. Sometimes these are of help, sometimes they are not.
Where nothing has happened to the back
This is very common, and occurs when the back is a symptom of something else going on in the body. So here, conventional direct intervention is either not effective at all, or offers just temporary relief. It is not until someone looks at the body as a whole and at this particular body as an individual that the cause(s) can be identified.

Typically the causes are wide ranging and vary from individual to individual. One fairly common cause is digestive problems. So if you have a digestive issue AND a back problem, the conventional approach to your back problem has been probably been ongoing for some time, and at best has only offered temporary relief. Sounds familiar?
The conventional approach is to blame the back condition on things such as bad posture, a lot of time spent in the car, at a desk, hunched over a PC etc. Whilst this may contribute to the condition, the question has to be asked as to why some people seem OK doing these things, and other people not OK?
How do we treat a bad back?
We use Kinesiology to determine the cause of the problem, whether it is nutritional, emotional, structural (whiplash and problems with the spine), or toxins. By addressing the problem, rather than the symptom, generally we restore people’s health very quickly
The haveahealthylife approach in both cases is to test the main muscles of the back (of which there are quite a few), and to conduct a thorough and comprehensive MOT to find other stresses going on in the body, in particular focussing on areas such as the digestive system.
With this approach, we have helped many people with all types of back problems, some of whom had been suffering for many years.
Why should I consult an alternative practitioner such as a Kinesiologist and book with you?
We specialise in bad backs! Your screening to determine the causes of your back problem, as described above, will be carried out in the first 15 minutes of an appointment for free.
This means that you can get back to full health quickly, and save money on trying therapies or supplements which don’t work or work for only a limited period of time.
Typically just one or two appointments should see a marked improvement.
We have a proven track record in helping people with back problems; you can review some of the latest here.
